I am currently a researcher at the University of Surrey investigating the role of lipid enriched tumour-associated macrophages in ovarian cancer under the supervision of Dr Fernando Martinez Estrada. Prior to this position, I investigated the human innate immune response to commensal microbiota under the supervision of Dr Jorge Gutierrez-Merino. From 2017-2020, I was a postdoctoral researcher at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health utilising translational readthrough therapy and omics approaches for paediatric primary mitochondrial disease research in Prof Shamima Rahman’s group.

My introduction to research started while studying nutrition at the University of Surrey where I obtained a BSc with a placement year at Stockholm University studying obesity and brown adipose tissue metabolism in Prof Jan Nedergaard's group. In 2016, I completed a PhD in Nutritional Sciences and Systems Biology at Surrey, and a three month placement at British Nutrition Foundation, under the supervision of Dr J. Bernadette Moore, Prof Nick Plant, Prof Andrzej Kierzek, and Dr Marcus Tindall. For my PhD, I studied non-alcoholic fatty liver disease utilising in vitro models, quasi-steady state petri net modelling with a human hepatic genome scale metabolic network, and introduced dynamic flux variability analysis (dFVA) for constraint-based modelling.

Before joining UCL, I undertook two research projects partnered with industries with Prof John McVey at Surrey to characterise a recombinant human factor VIII (rhFVIII) variant from conditioned media, and to produce rhFVIII variants using a lentiviral platform.
